Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha YZR-M1-Petronas Yamaha SRT) a patiemment attendu la dernière goutte de pluie hier pour enfiler la taille patron. Le pilote Yamaha s’est imposé ce samedi dans toutes les séances d’essais et partira dimanche à 13h00 en pole position d’une épreuve de MotoGP pour la 9e fois !
La Yamaha M1 porte chance aux Français. Souvenez-vous, il y a deux ans : Johann Zarco, au guidon déjà d’une Yamaha M1-Tech3, était parti en pole de ce Shark Helmets Grand Prix de France au plus grand bonheur du public et ce dimanche, un autre Français connaîtra ce même privilège, en la personne de Fabio.
Après avoir brillé en FP3 et FP4, le Niçois était à vrai dire très largement attendu. C’est au bout du compte dans le dernier secteur qu’El Diablo mettait tout le monde d’accord, pour aller chercher un tour en 1’31.314. Le représentant du team Petronas Yamaha SRT, qui avait déjà dominé les qualifications à huit autres reprises en MotoGP, récupérait ainsi avec autorité les commandes très momentanément délaissées à Jack Miller. Un peu plus de deux dixièmes séparaient au passage les deux hommes.
Mention spéciale également pour Danilo Petrucci, crédité du 3e temps ; alors qu’il ne s’était plus hissé en première ligne depuis le GP d’Italie 2019. De toute évidence, son passage par la Q1 lui aura été bénéfique. La 2e rangée sera quant à elle composée de Cal Crutchlow, de Maverick Viñales (Yamaha YZR-M1-Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) et d’Andrea Dovizioso.
Francesco Bagnaia, qui se sera lui aussi sauvé des rattrapages, partira pour sa part de la 7e place. Pol Espargaró, Johann Zarco et Valentino Rossi (Yamaha YZR-M1-Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) complèteront le Top 10, devant Franco Morbidelli (Yamaha YZR-M1-Petronas Yamaha SRT) 11e.
Dimanche, les hostilités MotoGP débuteront à partir de 9h30 par le warm-up MotoGP avant la course dont le départ sera donné exceptionnellement à 13h00 en direct sur les chaines Sports du Groupe Canal+.
