Frans Verhoeven (Yamaha YZ450F Rallye-Yamaha Netherlands Verhoeven) aura attendu la 12e étape pour signer sa première victoire sur le Dakar 2013. Son coéquipier Olivier Pain (Yamaha YZ450F Rallye-Yamaha Racing France-Yamalube) blessé, a joué la montre pour décrocher le 10e chrono du jour à seulement 5’32 minutes du leader…

Parti 3e à l’assaut de la spéciale du jour, le leader Cyril Despres avait décidé de protéger son coéquipier Ruben Faria face aux attaques de Chaleco Lopez, toujours redoutable à domicile. Conséquences, le tenant du titre a préféré temporiser pour laisser l’ouverture à ses rivaux, moins doués en navigation, et imposer ainsi un rythme modéré à la course. Une stratégie parfaitement payante puisqu’au final, Ruben Faria, parti 10e, signe au final le 2e chrono du jour, 1’38 minutes derrière Frans Verhoeven (Yamaha YZ450F Rallye-Yamaha Netherlands Verhoeven). Parti 12e, le Néerlandais a profité d’une trace claire pour ouvrir en grand, et signer sa 4e victoire sur le Dakar, la première depuis 2011. Derrière, malgré sa douleur à l’épaule, suite à sa chute de la veille, l’Espagnol Joan Barreda signe le 3e chrono du jour, 16 secondes devant Alain Duclos, excellent 4e.

« J’ai poussé durant tout ce Dakar, mais au début j’ai eu un petit souci de moto qui m’a fait perdre 45 minutes dans le 3e jour » , commente Frans Verhoeven. « Ensuite j’ai essayé de remonter au classement général. Aujourd’hui, je n’ai pas pris de risque mais j’étais vraiment très propre en navigation. C’est la cerise sur le gâteau. J’étais 2e de la première spéciale, et maintenant je gagne. Avec la malchance que j’ai eu, c’est bien que cela m’arrive maintenant. En plus, je suis tout de même bien remonté au classement général, j’ai de quoi être content » .

Autre ‘phénomène’ d’un Dakar qui prendra fin dans deux jours à Santiago du Chili, le cas Olivier Pain (Yamaha YZ450F Rallye-Yamaha Racing France-Yamalube). Leader de l’épreuve durant 4 jours en première semaine, le pilote Yamaha a ensuite accumulé les déboires depuis lundi. Blessé au bras droit mardi dernier dans une chute, Olivier a su rebondir depuis mercredi pour finalement accroché aujourd’hui le 10e chrono du jour à seulement 5’32 minutes de son coéquipier Néerlandais.

Michaël Metge (Yamaha YZ450F Rallye Yamaha Racing France-Yamalube), novice dans l’épreuve initiée par Thierry Sabine, a lui-aussi parfaitement assimilé les contraintes du Dakar pour s’offrir le 17e temps du jour à 11’14 minutes.

Reste qu’au général, la stratégie de Despres et Faria marche à plein puisque le tenant du titre est toujours tranquille leader, 5’39 minutes devant son coéquipier portugais qui, surtout, reprend près de 3 minutes à Chaleco Lopez, 7e temps du jour, et toujours 3e, mais désormais à 13’40 minutes du leader. Derrière, Olivier Pain (Yamaha YZ450F Rallye-Yamaha Racing France-Yamalube) et Frans Verhoeven (Yamaha YZ450F Rallye-Yamaha Netherlands Verhoeven) gagnent chacun une place (6e et 7e) à une grosse poignée de minutes de Juan Pedrero Garcia (5e) et 40 minutes du Slovaque Ivan Jakes (4e).

Chez les quads, le retour aux dunes et au hors-piste ramène Sebastien Husseini sur son terrain de jeu favori. Conséquences, le Néerlandais, qui vit aux Emirats Arabes Unis, remporte enfin sa première victoire sur le Dakar, 1’08 minute devant Marcos Patronelli (Yamaha YFM700R-HFP-Yamaha Racing Team Argentina-Yamalube). L’Argentin reste cependant solide leader du général, 1h52’35 devant le Chilien Ignacio Nicolás Casale (Yamaha YFM700R-Autogasco).

En autos, malgré une petite frayeur avec un pneu déchiré en toute fin de spéciale, Nani Roma profite idéalement des « plantages » successifs de Robby Gordon, puis de Stéphane Peterhansel, pour signer sa 3e victoire 2013, 4’18 minutes devant l’Américain. Officiellement en gestion désormais de son avance au général, le tenant du titre a roulé sans trop en faire, et malgré une petite séance de plaques, « Peter » ne lâche que 6’03 minutes à Roma, et surtout seulement 1’38 minute à son plus proche poursuivant, Giniel de Villiers, 3e du jour à 4’25 minutes du Catalan. Ainsi, à 2 jours de l’arrivée à Santiago, Stéphane Peterhansel compte encore 50’24 minutes d’avance sur le Sud-Africain et 1h31’06 sur Roma, nouveau 3e aux dépends de Novitskiy.

« Dans les dernières dunes nous sommes restés bloqués, et nous avons perdu 8 à 10 minutes » , lance Stéphane Peterhansel. « Nous avons été obligés de dégonfler les pneus, de sortir les plaques et de nous y reprendre à trois ou quatre fois pour pouvoir repartir. Il y avait donc du stress dans la voiture, mais maintenant tout est ok. Bien sûr, cela sent la victoire, mais je me rappelle aussi qu’à deux reprises j’ai perdu le Dakar dans les deux derniers jours. Nous savons que tout peut arriver, je peux commettre une erreur, nous pouvons avoir un problème technique. Alors justement, il reste encore deux jours ! »

L’emploi du temps tient compte des spécificités météorologiques du quartier. Le « Camanchaca » domine en maître en première partie de matinée. Ce n’est donc qu’après dissipation de ce brouillard tenace que les premières motos partiront à l’assaut des dernières dunes du Rallye. La partie sablonneuse, où un hold-up est encore jouable, représente le tiers de la spéciale. Pour entrevoir la fin du match, il faudra ensuite mettre le cap au sud, sur de larges pistes où peuvent toutefois se dissimuler des pierres briseuses de rêves. Une fois à La Serena, le dernier bivouac du Rallye pourra servir de cadre au partage du butin.
